I just purchased a e61i to use abroad on a temporary basis. I am surprised by what a clunker this is. Its disappointing that Nokia lags so far behind BB, the Iphone and Windows Mobile. The interface is so year 2000 and the updates should work dammit!

The e71 better be a major improvement or they can kiss the smartphone market goodbye.

Yes, there is a solution. Install it on Windows XP:

vMicrosoft Vista support temporarily removed - 8 May 2008

Support for Microsoft Vista has temporarily been removed from the Nokia Software Updater. This is due to recent changes in certain Microsoft Vista configurations that cause the Nokia Software Updater to become unstable. Other Microsoft Operating Systems are not affected. Support will be reintroduced as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks dky for the info. Deleting the sis and sisx files after the software update worked good for me. In my opinion, the reason we see that installing crap is because those files got corrupted during the software update. I deleted them completely (including the launcher_BB for blackberry) and re-downloaded them from nokia website. Other appz still on my PC, so well basically.. The update makes sense.. Only that the menu still loads slowly sort of, but it's all good..:D

Hi,
I did the update before reading this forum! Anyway, I was able to solve one reported problem. On power up, I got "Installing" and would fail to install from extensible memory and suggests me to go to "App Manager" to install. I had two files (.sis and .sisx), that is "Launcher Mfe" and "Launcher Widsets". I think those were the remnants of previous installation I had done on my phone.

Now the fix:
1. Try to install all pending applications in the App Manager (you can remove them if the installation is successful through uninstall from app manager)
2. Note down the names (file names) of all failed installations
3. Connect the phone through cable and select the data transfer mode (in which you can see all the hidden files and really can mess things if you delete the wrong ones).
4. Search for .sis and .sisx files.
5. Remove all the (.sis and .sisx) files corresponding to the failed installations that you tried in step #1.
6. Power down and startup again.
7. I did not see the irritating "Install" message and hope you have similar results.

Hello All,

I have had this problem related of the speed of the menus and folders. The worst, in my opinion, is the many errors with the E-Mail app. If the e-mail is under syncronization, when I press the mail key, the error is showed "Mail: System Error -22". After the syncronization the problem is gone.

I liked the new apps (QuickOffice, Download!, Search), but the problem change my opinion about this upgrade...

Regards,

Vinicius

I have a Nokia E61i that I bought from Dell Canada Small Business in October 2007. Today the Nokia software notified me that there were upgrades for the software and firmware. I just installed them, and now find that there are quite a few people who are also unhappy with the results.

I restored my data using the Nokia software - I haven't had time to ensure all messages are there, but my applications (especially Fring) are still gone!

We'll see if the phone is more reliable... I have had the in-car hands-free bluetooth lose sound with previous firmware. I wonder if there are improvements to the SIP for VoIP calling; the one from previous firmware was so poor that it was useless, which is why I installed Fring to begin with!

Is there anyway we can revert back to old version of the firmware. I simply doubt this is an improvement at all. My phone will stall every once in a while and require restart. I thought such thing only happens to window OS.
